Julie’s photography documents her solo journey to this distinctively unique country 17 years ago. The collection is designed to educate its audience to the beauty and uniqueness that is Cambodia, its people, and the ancient city of Angkor. With a complex and difficult history, what makes Cambodia an extraordinary and resilient country is its people and the unwavering commitment to their community and future generations. The exhibit will include images of daily life, the floating villages, as well as images in and throughout the ancient city of Angkor.
Julie’s primary work experience in Southeast Asian art began in 1994 during the 3 years she lived in Singapore. During this time, through her work with local Asian art companies, she studied Chinese antiquities as well as contemporary Asian fine art. Julie had the unique experience of marketing, developing and managing a gallery concept which was ultimately opened in the world famous Raffles Hotel in Singapore. She returned to the US to open her own Asian art gallery in the renowned River North Gallery District in Chicago importing works from Cambodia, India, Vietnam, China, Philippines and Indonesia. Julie spent close to a decade traveling Southeast Asia seeking out and representing overseas artists with a primary mission of supporting their works and sharing their cultures in her gallery. Julie now resides in Napa, California with an ongoing commitment to visual and performing arts.
